The MSc Finance and Accounting with CIMA course gives you the opportunity to develop subject-specialist knowledge in finance and accounting through a structured programme of postgraduate study.

The course is designed to add value to your first degree by developing an integrated and critically aware understanding of finance and accounting. It has been designed to align with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants syllabus and is eligible for CIMA exemptions.

You will develop analytical, problem-solving, digital and transferable skills, including Excel-based financial analysis and modelling, while exploring current finance and accounting theory, practice and future developments in the UK and internationally.

This course is for graduates who want to move into finance or accounting careers, including students whose first degree is not in accounting but who want a conversion-style Masters with professional relevance.

There are no optional modules on this course. Students are strongly advised to complete the dissertation after developing a research proposal through Business Research and Analysis.

The course uses a flipped classroom approach. Students prepare for class through VLE activities such as tutor videos and forum discussions, attend on-campus workshops to review key concepts and solve extended financial problems, and follow up with further VLE resources. Assessment methods are designed to develop analysis, employability and professional skills.

The programme is eligible for exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. It is enhanced by guest speakers from finance and accounting, professional body visits, employability events and industry-relevant case studies and assessments.

To complete the MSc Finance and Accounting, students must pass all 120 credits of core modules and achieve the required standard in the 60-credit dissertation, gaining 180 credits at SCQF Level 11.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications do you need?

We welcome Scottish, UK and international students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

Applicants will typically possess a degree or equivalent. A business-related honours degree, or equivalent, is normally acceptable.

Applicants with relevant academic, vocational or professional qualifications may also be considered. Relevant professional experience may be taken into account at the discretion of the programme team where appropriate.

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language competence. The usual requirement is IELTS 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5, or an equivalent recognised English language qualification.

Previous experience and skills in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint, are desirable. Students are encouraged to have access to a laptop and Office software for practical software-based activities.
