Psychology for real-world understanding

The BSc (Hons) Psychology course explores how and why people act in the way that they do. You will study the human mind and behaviour while developing the research, analytical and communication skills needed to investigate psychological questions.

The course focuses on applying psychology to real-world settings and problems. You will build understanding of psychological theory, research design, data collection, analysis and interpretation, while exploring areas such as cognitive, social, biological, developmental and individual differences psychology.

This British Psychological Society accredited course is the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist, while also developing transferable skills valued across many sectors.

At Level 10, you’ll complete your Psychology Dissertation alongside Professional Pathways in Psychology and work-related learning, with opportunities to explore specific professional pathways within psychology.

Learning includes lectures, tutorials, seminars, group work, research tasks, data analysis, independent study and work-related learning. Assessment may include essays, reports, research projects, data analysis, presentations, class tests and dissertation work.

The BSc (Hons) Psychology course is accredited by the British Psychological Society.

What qualifications do you need?

  • Scottish Highers: BBBB or BBBC
  • A Levels: BCC
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H1 H2 H2 H2
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: 27 points
  • A Levels: BBC including Psychology, plus GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above
  • SQA Advanced Highers: BCC
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: 28 points
  • HNC Social Sciences or Social Studies with grade B in the graded unit
  • HND Social Science may be considered on an individual basis

Relevant HNC, HND and SWAP routes may be considered, including social sciences, social studies, counselling, care, police studies, legal services, working with communities and related access programmes.

Applicants may also be considered with other academic, vocational or professional qualifications deemed equivalent.
