The BSc (Hons) Forensic Science course develops the scientific knowledge and practical skills used to identify, recover, analyse and present evidence in support of the legal process.

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Science course focuses on the application of science in support of the legal process. You will develop the scientific knowledge and practical skills needed to gather, analyse and present evidence in a way that is impartial, expert and scientifically robust.
The course provides underpinning knowledge in chemical and biological sciences alongside criminalistic topics such as crime scene investigation, forensic statistics and fingerprinting. As you progress, you will study evidence recovery, toxicology, drugs, DNA profiling, fire investigation, explosives, fibre analysis and advanced analytical chemistry.
Final-year students complete an extended research project, study specialist forensic topics and take part in an extended CSI project where findings are presented in a mock court room.
This course is for students interested in forensic science, chemistry, biology, crime scene investigation, evidence recovery, toxicology, DNA profiling and the use of scientific analysis in legal contexts.
Graduates can progress into forensic science, analytical science, laboratories, chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, occupational safety and health, accident investigation, public sector roles, police graduate entry routes or postgraduate study.
The course is accredited by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.

Teaching may include site visits, guest lectures, workshops, role-play, presentations, laboratory work, crime scene exercises and independent research. Assessment develops practical, analytical, written and oral communication skills.
