Build the bridge between business and technology

The BSc (Hons) Business Technology course explores how organisations adopt and use digital technologies to support operations, improve services and drive growth. It combines business knowledge with practical IT and systems skills.

Unlike more specialist computing courses, this course focuses on the role of technology in modern organisations. You will study a mix of business and technology modules, with content informed by areas such as Microsoft, Cisco and the British Computer Society.

The course is recognised by the British Computer Society and includes opportunities for professional certification and a 36-week placement route with an approved employer.

This course is for students who want to work at the intersection of business and technology. It is suitable if you are interested in IT support, business systems, digital transformation, software and ICT applications, technical maintenance, business operations or technology-enabled business improvement.

You will learn through lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, seminars, group work and blended learning supported by the virtual learning environment. Assessment may include coursework, reports, laboratory-based exercises, presentations and examinations where appropriate.

The course is recognised by the British Computer Society and supports progression into business technology, IT support, systems analysis, business intelligence, information security, project management and related roles.

What qualifications do you need?

We welcome Scottish, UK and international students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

Scottish Highers BBBB including one of English, Maths or Computing/Computer Science, plus English and Maths at least at SQA Standard Grade 3, Intermediate 2 or National 4.
A Levels BBC including one of English, Maths or Computing, plus three GCSEs including English and Maths at grade C or above.
HNC Business or Administration/IT.
Scottish Advanced Highers CCC including English, Maths or Computing, plus Highers in two other subjects at AB and English and Maths at the required level.
A Levels BBB in one sitting including English, Maths or Computing, plus three GCSEs including English and Maths at grade C or above.
HNC / BTEC Level 4 HNC Computing or IT-related subject.
BTEC Extended Diploma DDM.
HND / BTEC Level 5 HND / Foundation Degree Computing or IT-related subject, normally with grade B in the graded unit or equivalent.

Applicants may also be considered with other academic, vocational or professional qualifications deemed to be equivalent.

Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the English language requirements set out by the University.
