The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering course develops your ability to solve engineering problems using mathematics, natural science, engineering principles, design, analysis and practical skills.
You will study mechanics, applied mathematics, materials, manufacturing, thermo-fluids, design analysis, computer aided design, simulation, composite structures and energy systems. The course also develops professional awareness, ethics, commercial understanding, teamwork and communication skills.
The course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and offers an optional sandwich route for students who undertake a suitable placement.
This course is for students who want to work with mechanical systems, product design, manufacturing, materials, simulation, energy systems and engineering problem-solving.
Graduates can progress into engineering design, manufacturing, mechanical systems, energy systems, project engineering, consultancy, technical roles, further study or professional engineering development routes.

Gain workplace experience through an optional sandwich placement route.
You will learn through lectures, tutorials, laboratories, seminars, group work, independent learning and demonstrations. Assessment may include class tests, laboratory reports, design assessments, presentations, project work and formal examinations.
The optional sandwich placement supports employability by giving students the opportunity to apply engineering knowledge in a workplace setting.
