The BA (Hons) Performance course helps you develop as a creative maker, critical thinker and work-ready practitioner. You will explore performance through practice, history, theory, research and industry-focused learning.

The course supports you to develop practical performance skills while thinking critically about culture, society, creative practice and the professional context of performance. You will work across practice-based modules, performance contexts, research activity and creative projects.

As you progress, you will develop a portfolio of creative outputs and build confidence in collaboration, independent practice, freelance working and performance research.

This course is for emerging performers, performance makers and students interested in developing practical, creative and critical skills. It is suitable if you are interested in performance, theatre, creative practice, interdisciplinary work, performance research, cultural production or freelance creative careers.

Full-time students typically attend nine hours of on-campus sessions per week, with sessions normally running for 12 weeks in each taught term. Part-time students attend daytime classes with full-time students, with weekly hours agreed through an individual study plan.

The course is designed to develop critical thinkers, creative makers and work-ready performers. Students build practical, academic, personal and professional skills through performance projects, research, collaboration and reflection.

What qualifications do you need?

We welcome Scottish, UK and international students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

Scottish Highers BBBC including English at grade B or above, or a relevant alternative.
A Levels CCC including English or a relevant alternative.
Advanced Highers BBC plus Higher English.
A Levels BBC.
HNC HNC in Performance, Musical Theatre, Dance, Music or a relevant discipline, plus Higher English at grade B or above, or relevant alternative.
HND HND in Performance, Musical Theatre, Dance, Music or a relevant discipline, plus Higher English at grade B or above, or relevant alternative.

Applicants who do not meet the standard criteria may be considered through relevant experience under the University’s Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning provisions. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University English language requirements.
