The BA (Hons) Commercial Music course supports students with talent, drive and ability to build a varied career across performance, songwriting, music production, music business and cultural studies.

You can shape your learning across strands including songwriting and performance, technology, and music business or creative industries studies. You will explore contemporary popular music, production, performance, promotion, music enterprise, live events, recording, editing and the wider music industries.

The course is accredited by JAMES for UK delivery and is taught by staff with academic and industry experience, supported by guest speakers and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

The course uses inquiry-based learning, practical project work, creative production, performance, research, enterprise activity and critical analysis. Teaching draws on the expertise of academic and creative practitioners, with industry input supporting professional awareness.

The course is accredited by JAMES for UK delivery. Students may progress to employment, enterprise, industry activity or further study in music, creative practice or related disciplines.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications do you need?

We welcome Scottish, UK and international students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

Scottish Highers BBBC including English or a relevant alternative.
A Levels CCC including English or a relevant alternative.
Irish Leaving Certificate BBBC including English or a relevant alternative.
International Baccalaureate 24 points, including 4 and 4 at Higher Level.
Rockschool Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners in Technology or Performance pathways.
Advanced Highers BBC plus Higher English.
A Levels BBC.
International Baccalaureate 28 points.
HNC/BTEC SQA HNC in Music, Music Performance, Music Technology, Music Production, Music Business or relevant discipline; BTEC Level 4 HNC in Communication, Media or relevant discipline; or BTEC Extended Diploma DDM.
HND/Foundation Degree/Advanced Diploma Music, Performance, Music Technology or Music Business. Entry may also be managed by collaborative partners.

All applicants are expected to submit a strong personal statement and reference. Applicants may be invited for interview and/or audition. Where Higher Music is not held, applicants should demonstrate equivalent academic evidence or active involvement in music such as recording, composing, performing or organising events. Applicants to Italian campuses must demonstrate English language competence in line with University regulations.
