The MSc Psychology (Conversion) course gives graduates the opportunity to gain a British Psychological Society-accredited psychology degree and develop a scientific understanding of mind, brain and behaviour.

You will study core areas of psychology including developmental psychology, social psychology, biological psychology, cognition and individual differences. The course also has a strong focus on research methods, data analysis, critical reflection and the application of psychology to real-world problems.

The course is designed for students who developed an interest in psychology later in their academic careers, including those with a non-accredited psychology degree or a degree in another subject. Students who pass all modules will be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the British Psychological Society.

This course is for graduates from any subject area who want to convert into psychology, including those seeking the accredited basis needed for further professional psychology training in the UK.

Part-time students normally complete two Term 1 modules in Year 1, including Research Methods in Psychology, and two Term 2 modules. In Year 2, students complete the remaining taught modules and the Psychology Research Dissertation in Terms 2 and 3.

Full-time students typically attend weekly on-campus learning events of around 10 hours across two consecutive days in Terms 1 and 2, with additional asynchronous learning activities before and after sessions. In Term 3, on-campus learning is reduced while students complete the dissertation.

Learning is blended, research-led and supported by the virtual learning environment, with assessment designed to build subject knowledge and transferable skills.

Students who pass all modules are eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the British Psychological Society. The course supports further professional psychology study, research pathways and employment in a wide range of psychology-related and graduate roles.

What qualifications do you need?

We welcome Scottish, UK and international students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

Applicants will normally have an Honours degree with a minimum 2:2 classification in any subject area, a non-accredited psychology degree, or an ordinary degree with significant and relevant work experience.

Recognition of prior learning is limited to a maximum of 60 credits. Accredited prior experiential learning is not permitted for this course.

Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University English language requirements set out in Regulation 2.12.
