The MSc International Events Management course is designed for students who want to understand, plan and evaluate events in an international context. Events can shape destination identity, support creative enterprise, stimulate innovation, strengthen community cohesion and contribute to economic and social development.
You will study critical events, digital branding, practical event delivery, creative research, politics and policy in events and tourism, and specialist optional topics. The course is designed to produce critically informed and operationally capable events practitioners.
Learning combines online material, recorded conversations with academic and industry experts, face-to-face tutorials, case studies, presentations, discussion tasks and practical activities.
This course is for graduates who want to work in events, festivals, cultural events, tourism events, destination events, policy, operations, event planning or related management roles.
Graduates may progress into event management, festival and cultural event roles, destination and tourism events, event operations, policy-related roles, consultancy or further postgraduate and doctoral study.
Develop critical understanding of the production, consumption and regulation of international events.
Complete practical assignments that mirror the kinds of work expected in the events sector.
Choose between a dissertation and Developing Professional Practice project route.
Students normally take one optional module. Students may choose Developing Professional Practice instead of the Marketing, Events and Tourism Dissertation.
Modules use a standard delivery model with around four hours of contact time per module per week, combining online content with face-to-face tutorials or workshops. Teaching methods include lectures, recorded conversations, case studies, student-led presentations, discussion tasks and practical activities. Assessment is designed to reflect practical events industry contexts and may include reports, case studies, portfolios and presentations.
There are no formal placement arrangements. The course encourages students to experience work-based learning through volunteering or other roles. Students can take Developing Professional Practice instead of the dissertation, working through a partnership agreement with an employer on a sector-relevant project.
Students who successfully complete the required 180 credits, including the required core modules and project route, are eligible for the MSc International Events Management award. Graduates may progress to further postgraduate or doctoral study.
