MSc Information Technology with Financial Technologies is part of the UWS MSc Information Technology pathway suite. You will build a common foundation in information technology before focusing your studies on financial technologies.

Across the course you will study business data communication and networks, database design and implementation, and information systems analysis and design. Your pathway then adds specialist modules that focus on digital finance and blockchain technologies for finance, linking IT skills to modern financial systems.

The course is designed to help you understand current practices, trends and technological alternatives in business information technology, while developing practical skills that can be applied in real organisational contexts.

Students complete a Masters project within the area of the financial technologies pathway.

Teaching uses face-to-face large and small group delivery supported by Brightspace. The course uses tutorials, case studies, group work, coursework, class tests and formal examinations to develop practical technical skills, professional judgement and reflective practice.

What qualifications do you need?

We welcome Scottish, UK and international students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

Applicants will typically possess a non-IT bachelor’s degree deemed to be at least equivalent to a UK second-class Honours degree from a recognised institution. Applicants with a bachelor’s ordinary degree may also be considered on an individual basis.

Candidates with other academic, vocational or professional qualifications may be considered. Candidates with at least two years of industrial experience in an information technology role may also be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be invited to interview.

Applicants whose first language is not English must satisfy the University’s English language requirements. Equivalent recognised English language qualifications may be considered.

This course is designed for graduates from non-IT backgrounds who want to move into information technology. Experience or qualifications in areas cognate with information technology can support your application.
