At TEG we understand that taking an official English Language test might be frightening, especially when English is not your first language.

With that in mind, TEG has partnered with Cambridge Assessment English to offer free online English tests to applicants looking to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree at one of the five campuses of the University of the West of Scotland in the UK.

There are two tests available

Test One:

Test yourEnglish

  • A 5-minute test designed to provide an approximate indication of your level of English.
  • This is a 5-minute test, made up of 25 questions and put together by Cambridge Assessment English, designed to give the user a quick and easy way of measuring their level of English.
  • The test is powered by Cambridge and is open to anyone wishing to take an English Test.
  • At the end of the test, contact us with your result and we’ll talk about how to start your academic and professional journey!

Why?

This resource can be useful for checking your current level of English, as well as giving prospective students an idea of whether they would be ready to apply to study in the UK or if they need to further improve their English language skills.

Please note that this test is designed to only give an approximate indication of the participant’s levels of English, and so should not be used as a definitive measure of their language skills.

Who can take the test?

The test is open to anyone wishing to take an English Test.

Test Two:

Cambridge English Placement Test

The Cambridge English Placement Test is a fast and reliable way to assess your current level of English before you take a Secure English Language Test (SELT) to start your application process. It’s developed by Cambridge English, part of the University of Cambridge.

  • Reliable scores
A test score and  Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level is provided for each applicant.
  • Anywhere, anytime
The test is taken on a computer* with an internet connection.

*Check computer specifications required

  • Instant results
The test can take as little as 30 minutes, and accurate results are given instantly.
  • Test Report
Check the Test Report sample  here.
  • Assesses Reading, Listening and Language Knowledge skills
A single test covers Reading and Listening skills as well as Language Knowledge (grammar and vocabulary).
  • Is suitable for all candidates aged 17+
  • Uses international English
The test features a variety of accents and texts from a range of English-speaking countries.

Why?

TEG wants all prospective students to have the best possible chance of achieving their academic goals. English Language tests can be expensive, time-consuming and even scary at times. We wanted to offer an opportunity for applicants to check their English Language level before taking an official SELT test in order to apply. It’s free, fast and accurate!

Please note that this test is designed to only give an approximate indication of the participant’s levels of English, and so should not be used as a definitive measure of their language skills.

Who can take the test
