The MSc Quality Management course is designed to meet the evolving demands placed on quality professionals and graduates entering quality-focused roles.

You will study quality management, statistical quality control, operations management for sustainability, service quality, risk management, interpersonal skills, change management and research methods. The course emphasises continuous improvement programmes, quality systems and the application of quality approaches across service, manufacturing and wider business sectors.

The course includes a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt accredited by the Institute of Six Sigma Professionals, with a Green Belt CPD option available at additional cost.

Students complete 180 credits for the MSc award, including the required core modules. Optional module availability may vary.

Teaching uses a blend of formal and online sessions, industrial seminars, tutor-led tutorials, group work, self-directed learning, problem-based learning and international case studies. Assessment includes written examinations, coursework, individual and group work, case studies, presentations and an industrially related integrative project.

There is no formal industrial placement, but students have access to business and industry contexts, industrial mentors, professional body seminars and opportunities to undertake projects based on local company case studies. Students in employment may choose a project relevant to their workplace.

Students who achieve 180 credits, including the required core modules, are eligible for the award of MSc Quality Management. Graduates may also progress to PhD-level study.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications do you need?

We welcome Scottish, UK and international students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

Applicants will typically possess a degree or equivalent qualification. Where an applicant does not meet the standard academic entry requirements, other evidence may be considered on an individual basis in line with UWS recognition of prior learning or recognition of credit regulations.

Applicants with an appropriate qualification plus relevant industrial experience in a role related to the course may be considered. Non-standard entry may be open to applicants with an HND, DipHE or professional qualification accepted as equivalent, normally with at least three years’ relevant experience. Applicants without formal qualifications may be considered with extensive professional experience, normally at least eight years.

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language competence in line with UWS requirements, normally IELTS 6.0 overall with no component below 5.5, or an equivalent recognised qualification.

It is desirable that entrants to SCQF Level 11 have strong numeracy, communication, report writing, presentation and investigation skills.
