Build practical and strategic digital marketing expertise

The MSc Digital Marketing course focuses on the practical and strategic requirements expected of digital marketing graduates, underpinned by relevant academic theory.

You will study digital marketing theory and practice, digital branding, creative research, content and media management, future marketing and transformational technology, and practical issues in events as an optional area. The course also includes the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing delivered online by the Digital Marketing Institute alongside the MSc.

Assessment is designed to reflect the practical nature of the digital marketing industry, using reports, case studies, portfolios, presentations and live case study work to help build employability.

Students take either the Marketing, Events and Tourism Dissertation or Developing Professional Practice as the 60-credit final route.

Full-time students typically watch online lecture videos and complete reading tasks before weekly two-hour on-campus tutorial sessions. Modules use recorded materials, workshops, case studies, presentations, discussion tasks and practical activities. Assessment includes practical, industry-focused formats such as reports, portfolios, presentations and case studies.

The course is accredited by the Digital Marketing Institute and students undertake the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing online alongside the MSc. Students may choose Developing Professional Practice as an alternative to the dissertation, completing a practical or strategic project with an organisation.

Students who successfully complete 180 credits at SCQF Level 11, including the required core modules and final project route, are eligible for the MSc Digital Marketing award.

Applicants will typically possess an honours degree in a relevant area, or equivalent. Other evidence may be considered through recognition of prior learning or credit where appropriate.

Applicants may also be considered with other academic, vocational or professional qualifications deemed equivalent.

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English competence, usually through TOEFL 550 paper-based, 78 internet-based, IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.

Students should ensure they have access to suitable electronic devices before starting the course, as they will be expected to use VLE platforms and contribute to online and class-based activities.
